Treasure under the Waves

The goal is to create an exhibition right here at the Chinese Canadian Museum, where we can uncover the stories behind these valuable treasures and bring them to the light again. Beyond simply presenting these treasures to the public, my goal extends to build a profound connection between our generation and the rich cultural heritage they represent.
Through this exhibition, I aim to bridge the gap between the past and the present, making visitors to not only looking at these artifacts but also to engage with the stories behind them. By focusing on a deeper understanding of the culture, we can ensure that these treasures continue to resonate with and inspire future generations.

The Challenge

While developing the exhibition design for “Treasures Under the Waves,” I encountered a significant challenge: the younger generation’s diminishing interest in visiting museums, often due to perceived irrelevance or a lack of engaging content. Beyond simply presenting these treasures to the public, my goal extends to building a profound connection between our generation and the rich cultural heritage they represent. Through this exhibition, I aim to bridge the gap between the past and the present, making visitors not only look at these artifacts but also engage with the stories behind them. By focusing on a deeper understanding of the culture, we can ensure that these treasures continue to resonate with and inspire future generations.

I initiated the project by creating the logo and poster, drawing on motifs of waves, bubbles, and porcelain for inspiration. The initial design exudes elegance, focusing particularly on the patterns typical of antiques.

Since the design primarily targets younger audiences, I aimed to make it more engaging and playful, guiding children to explore the exhibition.

HOWEVER...

The Solution

The final visual identity for the exhibition features a porcelain holding ocean waves, inviting visitors to embark on an engaging underwater adventure. This central image sets the thematic tone and symbolizes the depth and mystery of the sea, enhancing the immersive experience from the start. To accommodate a diverse group of audience, the layout of the exhibition was meticulously designed to integrate two languages. Including two languages ensures that all information is accessible and clear, welcoming a broader demographic and allowing visitors from different linguistic backgrounds to fully engage with the displays. Social media serves as a dynamic tool in my promotional products, helping to generate excitement and draw in visitors. By leveraging these platforms, I effectively communicate the unique aspects of the exhibition, reaching a wider audience and encouraging more people to experience the adventure first-hand.
